Security?

"Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of humanity as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure or nothing." ~Helen Keller

This quote reminds me of a line from the Benedictine prayer book:

"O God, free us from all our contrived securities."

Two thoughts came to mind when I read that. The first was: Wonder what it would be like to be freed from all my "contrived securities". Then it struck me that perhaps all "securities" are contrived...and maybe even that the need for security is contrived.

Expanding thoughts for me...

AMEN! "Security," like "family" and so many other things we worship (right car, right clothes, etc.) is an idol.

I've heard the last sentence only; thank you for the preceding ones. What a woman!
