A beautiful prayer

Isn't this a beautiful prayer?

O secret Christ,
Lord of the rose of dawn,
hide me
within thy silent peace,
that, through the turmoil of the day,
I may abide within the quiet of the daybreak.

(From a compilation by Angela Ashwin. Used in the chapel at Laude Abbey. Source unknown.)

Yes I first heard it at Launde in 1992. I use it frequently in my ministry here in very urban west London. If you like the beauty of it then follow on by reading the meditation entitled 'Mass on the World' in Pierre Teilhard de Chardin's 1961 book Hymn of the Universe.

Do you know this prayer from St Augustine? I am using it this Lent (2010)

Watch, O Lord, with those who wake, or watch, or weep tonight,
and give Your Angels and Saints charge over those who sleep.
Tend Your sick ones, O Lord Christ.
Rest Your weary ones.
Bless Your dying ones.
Soothe Your suffering ones.
Pity Your afflicted ones.
Shield Your joyous ones.
And all for Your love's sake. Amen

Best wishes,

Ben
